A guide to buying the perfect Turkey

A whole Turkey is the perfect centrepiece for a traditional Christmas dinner. We offer a variety of different whole Turkeys; free-range or barn-reared, Bronze or White, each sold with the Rosamondford Farm guarantee of quality. We can supply whole Turkeys in a range of sizes, from 4.5kg up to 10kg in weight (enough to feed 17 hungry dinner guests).

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR TYPE

With distinctive dark, softly-sheened feathers, the Bronze Turkey is an older breed of domestic Turkey, thought to originate when birds taken to North America by European colonisers were cross-bred with native wild Turkeys. Because Bronze Turkeys are naturally slower growing, their meat has a rich, intense flavour. As the popularity of Turkey meat grew, ‘White’ breeds were introduced to present as ‘oven-ready’; faster growing, White Turkeys have a subtler flavour than their Bronze cousins, but they’re just as delicious.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR SIZE

We stock a wide selection of differently-sized whole Turkeys, ranging from 4.5kg up to 10kg. The chart below gives a rough idea of cooking times and servings according to weight.

 

STEP 3: CONSIDER A BONED & ROLLED TURKEY

You may wish to consider a boned and rolled Turkey, which is effectively a whole Turkey minus the bones; succulent thigh and leg meat and white breast meat are boned, rolled and hand-tied with string to give a large roasting joint, which will cook in less time than a bone-in Turkey. STEP 4: CHOOSE THE STUFFING

We offer several different stuffings. Choose from Chestnut, Cranberry and Apple; Parsley,  Wild Mushroom, Garlic and Herb; or Pork, Sage and Red Onion.
