What You've Been Cooking in 2024
As you'll know, we like to create a few recipe ideas to showcase both Greendale produce and ingredients from our favourite local suppliers. We loved finding out which recipes were the most popular with customers throughout the year, and the results were not always easy to predict - our recipe 'top ten' may surprise you!
1. CRAB THERMIDOR RECIPE

3. SHIN OF BEEF IN A RICH MUSHROOM STEW RECIPE

4. OVEN-BAKED SEA BASS

5. BACON & SAUSAGE MEATLOAF
Moist and flavourful, thanks to its streaky-bacon wrapping, this little meatloaf is ideal for brunches, buffets and in-between meals. 7. EASY TRAY-BAKE SPONGE CAKE
With a bit of adult help, mini-bakers can cook up a sweet Mother’s Day Treat with this simple sponge-cake recipe. As well as the basic cake mix, we’ve suggested some flavour variations and a couple of icing ideas – feel free to tweak them as much as you like, and make a special, one-off cake for your special, one-off mum! 8. MONKFISH WITH PARMA HAM & PESTO
Great to look at and even better to eat, these Parma-ham wrapped monkfish parcels look way more labour-intensive than they are – perfect if you want to impress! Serve with some simply-dressed salad leaves and a wedge or two of fresh lemon. Click here to view the recipe
9. ROAST LEG OF LAMB IN A HONEY MARINADE
This impressive-looking roast is perfect for entertaining, especially as it’s quick and easy to prepare; the simple marinade works its magic overnight, so all you need to do is put it in the oven the next day! Click here to review the recipe
10. ROAST TOMATO & GOATS' CHEESE VOL-AU-VENTS
Crisp pastry filled with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes and creamy, piquant goats’ cheese – what’s not to love? The pastry cases can be baked well ahead of time, but don’t fill them until you’re almost ready to eat, or they will become soggy. For a vegan version, omit the goats’ cheese. SEAFOOD SUCCESS
2024 saw a surge in seafood recipes compared to 2023, with 5 out of 10 recipes featuring a diverse range of fish & shellfish, versus 2023’s 3 out of 10. Boasting the top spot, our Crab Thermidor recipe, inspired by the classic French Lobster Thermidor, makes the best of our freshly prepared Lyme Bay Crab, followed by our Laxpudding recipe at number 2, bringing Scandinavian comfort food into the kitchens of our customers. It’s no big surprise that Greendale Seafood is a heavy feature on this list; it’s delicious, high quality and easy to prepare, often in no time at all. With the expert guidance of our fishmongers, it’s no wonder our customers love it!
TASTY IN NO TIME
Interestingly, two of our ‘quick & easy’ recipes made the list, with our Quick King Prawns recipe landing at number 6, followed by our Easy Tray Bake Sponge Cake at number 7. It’s evident that, even when time is tight, our customers never compromise on great food and delicious flavours.
CULINARY COMEBACK
Surprisingly, two of our top 10 recipes are somewhat ‘vintage’ dishes, evidently facing a resurgence among Greendale customers. Our Bacon & Sausage Meatloaf recipe, coming in at a respectable number 5, despite being one of our newest additions, is a far cry from its legacy as a low-quality meal during tough times. Finally, at number 10, our Roast Tomato & Goat’s Cheese Vol Au Vents bring back the popular 70s party food, making the best of our awesome selection of local Goats Cheeses – we’re very pleased to see it in our customers’ top ten.
