Back in the mid-1970s, a group of locals met in the village pub in Clun, Shropshire, to think up a new business venture. Their aim was to boost employment in the local area; because Clun is located deep in the countryside, they reasoned it would make sense to launch a business offering light-weight products that could be sent through the post. The idea of selling herbs and spices was raised, and The Shropshire Spice Company was born. Initially, the company operated from a run-down Victorian Methodist Chapel and employed three local ladies; present-day owners Robert and Fiona retain the original commitment to offering high-quality speciality products for amateur and professional cooks, and The Shropshire Spice Company is still based in Clun, proud to have many of the locals in its employ.
