100% British Free Range Chicken

To roast, first preheat the oven to 230°C/gas mark 8. Brush the chicken with olive oil or melted butter, season with salt and pepper, then place it in the hot oven for about 15 minutes to brown the skin. Reduce the oven temperature to 180°C/gas mark 4, cover the chicken loosely with foil, and then leave it to cook for about 15 minutes per 450g in weight. The meat will release juices as it cooks, which you can use to baste it occasionally; the chicken is cooked when these juices run clear. On removing it from the oven, leave the chicken (with its foil covering still on) in a warm place to rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.

Store in fridge and consume within 2-3 days of receipt, or freeze immediately. Suitable for freezing. All items are labelled with use by dates.

Greendale poultry products are sourced from our carefully chosen supplier, Creedy Carver, based at Merrifield Farm in Crediton, Devon. Creedy Carver pride themselves on producing top-quality chickens whilst maintaining a very sympathetic approach to bird welfare. From one day old, their chicks remain in temperature-controlled brooder units; at 28 days old they’re moved to free range units, which are either straw-bale shacks or special chicken arks. From here, they can roam grassy fields while enjoying protection from predators and the elements, thanks to their specialist housing. The birds are fed a low-density diet free from GM ingredients, additives or antibiotics, which allows them to grow more slowly, reaching maturity at their own pace. This simple lifestyle and natural environment combine to produce the delicious-tasting chicken that Greendale customers love.

Roaming free and growing at their own pace, these free-range chickens have matured at a more natural rate – unlike some supermarket chickens, they’re not given growth hormones – and their laid-back lifestyle is really reflected in the flavour and tenderness of the meat.
