At Greendale, we focus on selling fresh, locally caught shellfish in-store and online. If we can’t catch it ourselves, we source only from trusted suppliers with standards as high as our own; whenever possible, we try to keep ‘food miles’ as low as possible. When our vessels land a catch,
it can be on its way to our Farm Shop within hours, with a direct line of traceability from fishing vessel to customer.

Because we have our own fishing fleet, we know exactly where the shellfish on our counter has come from; our boats work out of Brixham, Exmouth, Salcombe and Newlyn, catching a variety of shellfish from West Country waters.

Crab

At Greendale we’re known for fresh, local Lyme Bay crab, landed in nearby Exmouth by our own boat, the Becci of Ladram. We offer a great range of crab, including cock and hen whole live (in-store only) or cooked crabs; picked and prepared white or brown crab meat; and even crab pâté.

Lobster

Lobster – there’s nothing quite like it, especially when it’s fresh from the waters of the Devon coastline! Caught by our own boats and landed locally, you’ll find a great selection at the Farm Shop and on our website, from whole live (in-store only) or cooked lobster to cooked and dressed lobster and even ready-made lobster thermidor.

Scallops

Our scallop boats are based in Devon and Cornwall - we take the pick of the catch, so we always have the best scallops on sale. Distinctively coloured, with their firm white flesh and cream and orange coral (or roe), these delicately flavoured shellfish are low in cholesterol and high in protein, vitamins and minerals, making them a healthy and delicious treat! As well as fresh scallops (sold without their shells), we also stock a selection of ready-prepared scallops with flavoured butters, plus Coquille St. Jacques and scallop thermidor.

Whelks

Found in abundance along the Devon and Cornwall coast, our whelks are caught by Greendale’s own potting vessels and landed nearby. If you’ve never tried them before, why not give them a whirl? All of our whelks are supplied cooked and ready to eat; just use a small fork to coax the meat from the shell, then sprinkle with a little vinegar and enjoy with plenty of bread and butter.

Cephalopods

Despite a long association with sunnier climes, these distinctive-looking members of the cephalopod family are actually found here in UK waters (especially cuttlefish) - it may surprise you to learn that our boats land locally-caught squid, octopus and cuttlefish in Brixham. Deliciously different, with firm, sweet-tasting flesh, we supply all of our cephalopods washed, cleaned and ready to cook, so there’s no need to be put off by the thought of prep work!
